ABOUT ME
--------
My journey into counselling and psychotherapy began with initial counsellor skill training combined with volunteering for a number of years with Victim Support.
I then undertook further training as a Humanistic and Integrative counsellor at the respected Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute.
Being an Integrative counsellor means I am experienced in modalities; such as Person-Centred, Gestalt, Object Relations, Self-Psychology, Attachment, Transactional Analysis and Psychodynamic theories.
There is a strong Person-Centred element to the way I work however my ability to draw on different modalities allows me to tailor therapy unique to the individual and their issues.
My belief is that we are all unique human beings; that innately move towards growth and expansion. Carl Rogers defines this as our 'actualising tendency'. Moreover, we are born into relationship; this is necessary for our growth and development.
However, we can be wounded in relationship therefore I believe the therapeutic relationship is key to providing the necessary conditions that can support our growth and recovery.
I believe the mind and body are not separate entities therefore I take a holistic approach to your well-being.
I am a caring, compassionate listener and I will endeavour to work deeply to understand you; in turn helping you to explore, identify, and understand your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and experiences.
My approach is to work in collaboration with you; as you are the expert in your life. With support you may find the solutions that feel right for you.
I am a BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) registered counsellor
therefore I am guided by their professional standards and ethics. One of which is
that I attend Supervision. This means I can reflect on our work anonymously with another
experienced counsellor; this ensures I work professionally in your best interest.
I have several years experience working in agencies providing counselling with a variety of issues such as anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, addiction, grief, relationship difficulties, post traumatic stress and sexuality issues.
