What is counselling?
Counselling is a 'talking therapy' that offers you a safe, confidential space to explore your life and any issues with a professional therapist. It needs commitment and trust from both therapist and client.
How will I feel?
Therapy is a unique personal process. You may go through a period of feeling worse than when you started as we begin to explore painful feelings.
Will you tell me how to solve my problems?
No, I will not direct you; however exploration and insight may allow you to move forward in ways that feel right to you.
Does it work for everyone?
Therapy may not bring about the changes you had hoped for.
How long does it take?
A few sessions may be enough for a specific issue or we may continue for many months. Longer term psychotherapy generally explores issues at a deeper level. We will periodically review our sessions to see if it still meets your needs.
How long is a session?
Sessions are for 50 minutes. If you arrive late for a session I am unable to extend the session.
How often will we meet?
Usually once a week and at the same time however this can vary depending on your needs.
Do you keep notes?
I keep brief notes however these are security coded with names stored separately; they are stored in a locked cabinet or on security encrypted devices.
What is Supervision?
A supervisor is another qualified counsellor; also a member of the BACP who I review my work anonymously with to ensure I work to the best of my ability in supporting you. It is an ethical requirement of my membership of the BACP.
Fees?
Fees are reviewed annually and I reserve the right to increase fees. Fees are required at the beginning of each session.
Termination?
You can terminate therapy at any time however endings are an important aspect of therapy; preferably to be approached and worked through together.
